About the Office
The central coordinating office in the governance architecture of Imo State.
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI) is headed by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, the highest-ranking political appointee in the State Civil Service structure, directly responsible to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State. The current Secretary is Chief Cosmas Iwu.
Vision
To be a world-class coordinating hub for effective policy formulation, implementation and monitoring for good governance and sustainable development in Imo State.
Mission
To ensure seamless coordination of Government policies and programmes, efficient management of State Executive Council affairs, and harmonious inter-governmental relations for the realization of the Shared Prosperity Agenda of the State Government.
Core mandate and functions
Coordination of Government Business
Coordinating the formulation, implementation and monitoring of government policies, programmes and decisions.
Secretariat of the State Executive Council (EXCO)
Serving as Secretary to the State Executive Council: taking charge of the EXCO agenda and minutes, and communicating EXCO decisions to all MDAs for implementation.
Custodian of Government Records
Custodian of all Executive Council records, Government Gazettes, Executive Orders and other vital policy documents.
Inter-Governmental Liaison
The bridge between the Executive and the Legislature, Judiciary, Federal Government, other States, Local Government Areas and Development Partners.
Supervision of MDAs
Providing general supervision and ensuring synergy among Ministries, Departments and Agencies for effective service delivery.
Special Duties
Handling boundary disputes, communal conflicts, chieftaincy affairs, emergency management (SEMA), pilgrimage and other assignments as directed by the Governor.
